Lyveden Fairapache Nitido At Remuda(Fairoaks Akeeno x Apache Trails Fairoaks Shanita of Lyveden)
Reno was one of the best dogs I have known and had the priviledge to own.
I never met him until the day I picked him up from Angie Challenger's (Lyveden) place and it was love at first sight for both of us.
Reno was moderate and small compared to the aussies here at that time, he was also what people called "plain"..... huh....... little did they ever know.
George used to point to Reno and say, "that is your best dog there Linda!" and he was right.... remember, he had not met Phoenix.
Taz was fun and special, but Reno was exceptional. he was serious, the most willing to please dog I have owned to date. He was capable of reading my mind.
I started to train him for competitive obedience a month short of his 2nd birthday.... he won out of Beginners and Novice in a season and was on his way to the top, in my opinion of course, when it all changed because of my imported litter - he got put on hold............. that was a huge mistake on my part.
Reno sired two litters. The first for Angie (Lyveden) and the last for Sue (Topeka)
He was born on the 17th Feb 1996 and died very suddenly in May 2003.
The postmortem showed that he died of an aneurysm. Reno died in minutes.
We lost a great little dog. Reno was one in a million.
Mr. Ernie Hartnagle was the surveyor who did the first NASA Breed Survey and Reno was graded Class 1. When you know that Ernie was one of the people who wrote the original breed standard (ASCA) it takes on a new meaning. Ernie also used him to show the judges at a seminar the true aussie gait, he called Reno, "a fine dog". That is good enough for me.
Sincere Thanks to Angie Challenger (Lyveden) for allowing me to have Reno!
THE LITTLEST DOG IN CLASS
A new dog stood
at the schoolroom door,
shaking and quite shy.
No one had seen him there before.
The littlest dog in class.
His eyes were wide
as he stood on his toes
to accept his training collar.
Could he make it do you suppose?
The littlest dog in class.
He cocks his ears
as he takes his place.
He shakes a stubby tail.
For such a serious lesson,
such a comical face?
The littlest dog in class.
Some dogs are big.
Some dogs are strong.
Some stoutly stand apart.
But it's a hero in pint size
that steals my heart.
The littlest dog in class.
