Dil - Katie Bloor.

One sock, two sock, three sock, four,

Around the corner and there’s a whole lot more,

The culprit stands near by, another under his paw,

“What?” he asks with his amber eyes,

I lift the sock and he looks up in surprise,

“Well how did that get there?” his head tilts to the side,

Then suddenly he’s up, bum wiggling, grinning wide,

I just laugh as he shows off his pearly whites,

His smile makes strangers think that he bites,

But everyone knows it’s his own special way

Of saying hello to everything he meets that day.

Now his wiggly bum seems to confuse people too

But trust me, it’s a blessing, it means that he loves you.

Its time for a walk; socks now on my feet,

Questions bombard me as we hit the street,

Is it a tiger? A hyena? A Border Collie?

“No,” I proudly reply, “He’s Dil my red merle Aussie.”

I look down at my little guy,

Turning heads as we walk by,

Styling his patchwork coat and stumpy tail,

He knows he’s beautiful…typical male,

As we hit the field he starts his puppy run,

We are always reminding him he’s four not one.

After a run, a sleep and his dinner,

Its time to train him into a winner,

Looking down at his glowing face,

Always happy, even if we don’t place,

But he won’t work for nothing, he needs his pay,

A juicy sausage or tuggy- his favourite game to play.

He doesn’t mind when it’s time to sleep,

Flopping onto his back, beginning to dream, not a peep.
